1652 COMMONWEALTH "FINE WORKS" SHILLING
£1,000
Commonwealth (1649-60),Shilling, "FINE WORKS" 1652, , m.m. sun, reads COMMON.WEALTH, the T re-entered over a higher off-set T, and no stop after ENGLAND (Tisbury III, lot 406, same dies; ESC 110 [986G ~ R3]; N.2724; S.3217) weight 5.69 grams
Light signs of historic cleaning however Very fine and very rare, this being a die duplicate of the price record-setting Tisbury example that sold for over £6,000. Like this example it was also struck on an a typically neat and round planchet with medallic die alignment, which is entirely consistent with 'fine work' strikings of the period.
