Charles I (1625-49), Gold Crown of Five Shillings, Tower mint, group A, Class I, first crowned bust in coronation robes left, value in field behind, Rev, crowned quartered rectangular shield of arms, with light garniture, beaded circle surrounding, mm. lis both sides (1625) (S.2710; N.2179; Brooker 183; Schneider) weight 2.22 grams.

A truly sensational specimen – bold, beautiful, and extremely desirable. This piece speaks for itself. The portrait is nothing short of majestic: sharply struck, perfectly centered, and framed by lustrous, untouched surfaces that elevate it far above the norm.

Virtually uncirculated and very rare in this superb state, it stands as one of the best finest known – a coin that would grace even the most advanced collection. It is remarkably well-preserved, with an eye appeal that is immediate and unforgettable.

This example rivals the celebrated Cope specimen, which realised 6,000 CHF hammer in December 2024. In both technical quality and visual impact, this piece is every bit as compelling, and available for almost half the price ! We have attached a copy of the example from the Cope collection too so you can draw your own conclusions.
