1937 Edward VIII Reverse Die Trial Halfpenny - of the highest of rarity !

£12,000

Edward VIII, Halfpenny, 1937, Reverse die trial, ship sailing left.

1 of just 3 known examples and an incredible piece of numismatic history. This exquisite example graded by NGC as PF65BN, and the finest known. It is noted that a large number of dies for coins, medals, and seals were prepared for the new king's coinage in 1936, clearly indicating that the mint had all intentions of producing a full series of issues for circulation, however these were ultimately destroyed after Edward's abdication to marry Wallis Simpson following just 10-1/2 months of rule thus any original piece made by the Royal Mint is excessively rare.
