Milled Coins and Medals
Although there were several early experimental issues, it is generally accepted that Milled Coinage was introduced under the reign of Charles II. With great advances in technology and in an attempted to decrease the problem of clipping, Milled coins with lettered edges were produced from 1662 onwards. Over the past 450 years, new denominations have been introduced into currency and with the age of discovery and with the industrial revolution, coins from this era have heavily left their legacy on Britain's coinage.
