1746 George II LIMA Halfcrown

£995
George II (1727 - 1760) "Lima" Halfcrown, 1746. Laureate draped older bust of king left by John Tanner. Rev. Crowned cruciform shields. (S.3695A; ESC-606)
Iridescent almost mint state with a delightful golden and bluey green toning. The Lima Halfcrown is probably rarer than the Crown in the higher grades.

A quantity of treasure was seized by Admiral Anson during his eventful circumnavigation of the globe 1740-1744. Much of this was made into coinage, and the word LIMA was placed below the bust of George II on each obverse, to celebrate the seizure, and the successful harassment of the Spanish colonies in South and Central America.
