Hammered
Hammered Coins were struck from the first millennium through until the mid 17th century. Produced by placing a blank piece of metal of the correct weight in-between two dies and then striking the upper die with a hammer to produce the required image on both sides. Denominations vary from Pennies, Groats, Crowns and Testoon in Silver to Gold Sovereigns, Unites, Nobles, to name but a few. Eye appeal, Condition and Provenance can hugely increase a coins value from this era.
